Include the well's API number

It is the one identifier that is unambiguous. Lease names repeat, operators change, and county spellings vary between the three state records we read — the API number does not. All three states share the national API numbering scheme: a state prefix (42 Texas, 30 New Mexico, 35 Oklahoma), a county code, and a well number. The commonly written form is 10 digits (42-XXX-XXXXX); the full 14-digit form adds well-event suffixes. Either works, and partial numbers help too.

Also useful, if you have them:

• the coordinate we showed you, and the datum label next to it
• the coordinate you expected, and where it came from
• whether you were looking at the surface hole (SHL) or the bottom hole (BHL)
• the app version, from Settings → About PetroCoordinates

Reporting a location that looks wrong

Tell us what you observed on the ground and how you measured it. We correct records against evidence — a survey plat, a GPS reading with its accuracy, a photograph of the wellhead sign. We do not change a published location because it was voted on.

If the underlying state record is what is wrong, we will say so rather than quietly overwrite it. The public record is the public record; our job is to label it accurately, not to launder it.

Billing

Subscriptions are handled by Apple, through the App Store. Refunds, cancellations and payment methods are managed in your Apple account settings — we cannot process them on your behalf, and we cannot see your payment details.

Deleting your account

In the iOS app, open Settings, choose Delete Account, and confirm. Private visits, favorites, notes, and your account identity are permanently deleted. Community corrections that have already affected the shared record are retained only in anonymized form. Account deletion does not cancel an App Store subscription; cancel that separately in your Apple Account subscription settings.

What we cannot help with

We cannot tell you whether it is safe to dig, drive or enter anywhere. Every coordinate on this site and in this app derives from a public record and must be verified on the ground before excavation or entry.
